More than 2,000 Ukrainian professional athletes are fighting for freedom on the front line. Among them are world and European champions. How does war transform their sports careers? And what do they plan?
"I had to do this to protect my home from the Russians who invaded my land to destroy it and kill the entire nation," says Roman about his motivation. - They are shooting civilians. Cities are constantly bombing. We do not want to fight, but we will defend our country till the last drop of blood, till the last bullet."
Roman Shcherbatyuk - World Games champion and world champion in kickboxing WAKO
Roman and other soldiers are bravely defending the borders. But it's a war — dangerous and unpredictable. On the battlefield, Roman got a shot in his head. Fortunately, the helmet saved his life. Despite these experiences, Roman has found the strength to return to the sport temporarily, only to participate in the World Games. Then he will change his favorite boxing gloves again in favor of an AK-47.
